about
Kia Ora, I'm Murphy. I am a musician living in Wellington and studying for a Bachelor of Commercial Music at Massey University. I've honed my skills and broadened my scope while studying, and working as a recording artist and a studio engineer on various projects at Massey. My goal is to study for my Masters of Commercial Music and work as a studio engineer/session musician after graduating.
my story
Growing up in the small town of Te Puke, I knew early on that I had aspirations to experience a larger city and throw myself at opportunities. After studying music all throughout high school, I didn't have any plans other than moving to Wellington and furthering my music studies with a Bachelor of Commercial Music at Toi Rauwharangi College of Creative Arts at Massey University. I have had the opportunity to work on various projects while at Massey. During the second semester of my first year, I was part of a project called Wind and Metal, which aimed to capture the ambient characteristics of the city, as well as tell the history of colonization throughout the era by utilizing field recordings, genre-blending and a 7.1 surround sound mix. During my third year, I've focused on my debut EP titled Songs from the River. The EP is influenced by gothic western and grunge genres, with grief and mental health lyrical themes. I have also worked as a studio engineer for a few of my colleague's projects, helping me expand my craft as a musician and a recording engineer.
